Our ocean is a wonderful place. However, climate change has been going on for some time and  is going to be a massive problem… so we will show you what is most likely to happen in the next 150 years and how we can limit it.

Here is what is most likely to happen in the next 150 years:

Today 0°C
10 years (2036) +0.2°C to +0.4°C
20 years (2046) +0.4°C to +0.8°C
30 years (2056) +0.7°C to +1.2°C
40 years (2066) +1.0°C to +1.7°C
50 years (2076) +1.3°C to +2.2°C
60 years (2086) +1.6°C to +2.7°C
70 years (2096) +1.9°C to +3.2°C
80 years (2106) +2.1°C to +3.6°C
90 years (2116) +2.3°C to +4.0°C
100 years (2126) +2.5°C to +4.4°C
110 years (2136) +2.7°C to +4.8°C
120 years (2146) +2.9°C to +5.2°C
130 years (2156) +3.1°C to +5.6°C
140 years (2166) +3.3°C to +6.0°C
150 years (2176) +3.5°C to +6.4°C

You may  think a 3.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius temperature rise isn’t a lot… but it is! This would mean:

Massive sea level rise: Water expands as it heats and with melting ice sheets and glaciers a rise in sea level would cause the sea level to rise by quite a few metres. This would probably permanently submerge major cities near the coast including Miami, Rio de Janeiro and Shanghai.

Ecosystem collapse and extinctions: A temperature change would push many marine species toward extinction because the food chain would collapse. Coral reefs, the home of 25% of marine life, would be destroyed since if it rises by that much then 99% of coral is likely to be destroyed.

Extreme weather amplification: Hotter oceans provide much more energy to storms. This would fuel significantly more intense hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons.

I hope I have showed you why protecting the planet is important and how bad things might be.
