Yesterday, we went to the Science Museum and watched a 3D Imax film called Antarctica. It was very cool. We saw lots of penguins in it as well as other exciting animals like walruses. One of the funniest parts of the film was when all the penguins did poos everywhere – scientists use this to work out how many penguins there are on the islands around Antarctica. You can also see the poos from space!
We saw a really interesting bit about brinicles – these are frosty fingers that come down from the surface and freeze everything in their path including sea creatures.
We also saw Weddell seals. There was a big snowstorm and the mother had to leave her baby on the land to take cover in the water. The next day we saw that the baby had survived and took his first ever swim in the water with his mother.
The film was excellent. It told us how important Antarctica was for stopping climate change.
